Shadwell Basin

Shadwell Basin used to form part of the London Docks and now stands as one of the few surviving parts of that dock complex that has not been filled in. After the docks closed, Shadwell Basin fell into dereliction until it was taken over by the London Docklands Development Corporation in the 1980s.

In 1987, an iconic housing development by MacCormac, Jamieson, Prichard and Wright architects, helped spur regeneration of the area. The basin is now used for sailing, canoeing and fishing and stands as a great industrial monument to Wapping’s past.
