Tower of London

It’s one of our nation’s most important historical sites, a London landmark and a draw for tourists across the globe – and the Tower of London is in our ward! Its centrepiece, the White Tower, was built in 1078 and since that time the Tower of London has served as an armoury, royal residence, menagerie, public records office, prison and treasury. It has also served as the home of both the Crown Jewels and the Royal Mint. The Tower’s walls have borne witness to some grisly deaths, including the beheading of Anne Boleyn whose ghost reputedly still haunts St Peter’s chapel.

Today the Tower is both a major tourist attraction and a residential community with over thirty beefeaters living within its walls. As Tower Hamlets residents, we can get into the Tower for £1!
