St Katharine Docks

Originally the site of the St Katharine’s by the Tower Hospital, in 1827 the area was cleared and construction began on a complex of ¬†docks and warehouses that eventually became known as St Katharine Docks. Commercially unsuccessful, the docks were eventually amalgamated into the London Docks but were eventually closed in 1968. Sold to the Greater London Council, redevelopment of the docks began in the 1970s when the imposing Tower Thistle Hotel was constructed (now run by the Guoman hotel group).

Eventually the old docks became a beautiful marina. New residential complexes were built while some of the remaining warehouses were converted into homes.

Today St Katharine Docks stands as a glamorous and contained London community and leisure destination with shops, restaurants and yachting marina.
