Green Spaces

We are lucky in Wapping to have several small parks and recreational spaces, stretching from the King Edward Memorial Park in the east to the Hermitage Riverside Memorial Garden in the west.

Elsewwhere we have the Wapping Rose Garden, Wapping Green, Ornamental Canal, St John’s Churchyard, Wapping Woods, Waterside Gardens and Wapping Gardens. The latter, known formerly as Wapping Recreation Ground, was one of the earliest applications to be made under the Artizans and Labourers’ Dwellings Improvement Act of 1875. The original slums of the area were cleared to make way in 1886 for gardens opened for the enjoyment of all and laid out by the Metropolitan Board of Works.
